Planning to Have a Personal Podcast Show

A few hours ago I decided to take my vocal skills a step ahead - going to buy an unidirectional microphone. I’m looking at around $40-$80 AUD in price range, a good entry-level professional recording device. I have a basement at home where it’s sound-proof - perfect for recording without extra noises, and hopefully by hearing myself singing I can figure out where my weaknesses are.

But the next thought kicked in. What about a podcast? I always wanted to do one, but never figured out why. I already have the awesome free software CamStudio for recording my computer screens; adding a microphone with a USB input, I would have all I need for a podcast in terms of equipment.

Motivation

To be honest, I don’t paint enough on a regular basis. What about a weekly or biweekly podcast that records me painting and talking for about an hour? Or maybe doing computer graphics related work? I think that’d be cool, just a great excuse to get my lazy butt working.

It’ll also be a good opportunity for me to reach out; I’ve always been surprised how many people out there shares a common interest with me and I find new things to learn from others every day. A podcast hosted on my own site could probably gain me more networking contacts, or potential buddies.

Topics

I do way too many things. I love Math, although I lack practice, and I program on a casual basis, trying to figure out many different things depending on the time of the day. Right now I’m trying to learn how to write shaders for games; I’m an artist, who takes a stand in his own vision and reproducing them onto a viewable content for others to see. I also do a little bit of music, singing and what not, and now learning how to play a guitar. Not to mention I dig web designers.

So, what will this be about? I’ve made a draft decision: Technical Artist related topics.

It will be sort of episodic. One show could be about a certain painting I’m working on for animals, and then maybe the next three will be about a game project. Then after that, I could be painting again. I’m trying to limit the different kinds of topics I will be doing, since I’d like to keep my common audiences interested, but I’d also like to do different kinds of things so more people may be drawn in. It’s a tough call.

Definitely Programming and Art are the big two.

Style

It will be a video-cast, aired directly from my site and perhaps along with sites like YouTube. I’m planning on having two versions: the full version is likely to be around 800-960 pixels in width, while the lower resolution one will be half that width. Mainly, I think it’s going to be interesting becuase I will be sharing what I do, while giving speeches on motivations, inspirations, and things that keep me going. I believe it’s the most important thing for self-driven individuals - to keep it going. It’s the easiest thing to keep up, and the hardest thing to get into.

It’s going to be a free videocast as well. No ads or anything. That also means I won’t have awesome music intros or cool video at the end of each show, but it keeps the file concise to the point. I think I like that.

Feedback

This is the most important I will need once the show goes for a month or so - I’d really love to hear comments, critiques, responses, or any kinds of reactions to what you liked about the show, what you think that could be improved, and what do you like to see in the future. Friends are what I’m living for my life, and audiences are invaluable to me if I’m going to do a podcast show.

I’m still debating whether I need a forum or not. We’ll have to see if my blog’s comment system holds up.

Emails will also be open for feedbacks. I’m always listening.

When and What

The roadmap is to launch my first podcast in the New Year’s Day. I’m going to get the microphone for Christmas, and all will be planned out. But what will it be called?

A few cool names came up to me like, ART Real-Time (which is awesome because it’s a recursive name), or Digital Motivation Podcast. I don’t really know. When I have a name down for sure, I’ll update that on my blog.

Stay tuned!
